Everyone is doing pretty darn great so far. I am so excited about it. We are having a lot of fun!
Just a reminder, payment is due by the 10th of each month. After that a $10 late fee is applied to the balance.
Please start looking for 1 Christmas (or anything winter themed) song for recital. As usual, I will pick the second recital song. That will be happening this month so please watch for sheet music coming home. Try to help your student keep track of it so we don't have any weeks where we are missing our music.
I am tentatively looking at December 16th at our recital date. This isn't set in stone, but keep this date open for now.
I always follow the local school district calendar for closures. It looks like there is no school on October 4th and October 18th for K-8, both are a Friday. As per my policy, unless I hear from you 1 week in advance, I will plan on NOT teaching your lesson that day. Please text (227 3200) or email or call me in advance if you are coming. I am not able to do different times for lessons on these days, but I am happy to teach at the usual time.
Looking ahead to November, school is not in session November 22 (Friday) or on November 27-29 (Wed, Thurs, Friday) If you are planning to have lessons on any of those days, please let me know 1 week in advance. I will remind you of this again next month!
We are reaching colder weather and that dreaded cold and flu season. Please be mindful of when your kids are sick and if they are contagious, let me know so I can clean the keys more then I usually do or even keep them home. If your student is healthy, make sure they wash their hands when they are done with piano. A lot of little fingers play in a day and I am hoping we can prevent passing colds around this year. I clean my piano at the end of the day, but I often don't have a chance between students.
If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to holler at me. You are also always welcome to sit in on your kiddo's lesson. This can be great for a student who is struggling at home because you can see and hear what is going on at lesson that maybe isn't being done at home. It also helps a student who is doing great because they can show off a little for you. If you have time occasionally I hope you will sit in!

Hi there! Since the google calendar was a bit of a pain for a lot of you, I took the summer calendar and put it here for you to select a time from if you are doing summer lessons.
I also made the fall schedule, so you can tell me what time will work for you there! Now, I know some of you have more than 3 kids who will be taking lessons this fall. If you let me know quickly what day and time you want to start I can shift the other piano times accordingly. (If you look below you will understand what I'm saying.)

I've tried to create the most consistent schedule I could just so I have a nice routine going, but I am flexible on some of it. The only thing I can't do is add lesson times on Tuesdays. Piano Information 2013

I will be opening the summer lesson schedule in March and the fall schedule in April. Current students and their families will be given preference and I will take students from the wait list after that. I will be expanding my studio back to the larger size this coming fall so you are welcome to refer friends again.
We'll be working on recital songs in March and the recital will be the end of May again.

I hope all of you had a wonderful holiday!
I plan to resume regular lessons the first week or January and unless you have talked to me I am planning on your lesson running at the usual time.
My schedule is pretty tight this semester but I do have room for about 2 more students, particularly if they are students who could take class during regular school hours. My evenings and after school hours are pretty packed.
We will start looking for recital songs soon and I am working on another opportunity for performing, I'll let you know if that pans out.

Special Homeschool ONLY Classes
We have put together a discount package just for families in our area who educate their children at home.
This began as an arrangement for student using the K12.com curriculum but we have decided we would like to expand it to students using all forms of home education.
It is pretty simple.
Homeschool families are welcome to attend classes on Thursdays for a discounted rate of $25 a month. (If there is more than one family member attending class it is $20 a month per family member).
This is only available for the Thursday sessions classes (The Monday class is for regular students).
Class times are 6-7pm for children (ages 5-12) and 7:15-8:15 for adults (ages 13 and up)
Children AND parents may take advantage of this opportunity.
The Childrens' class and the Adult class run on the regular times and there is a limit to how many students can fit in the classroom so this is a first come, first serve opportunity.
All families are welcome to attend a class to try it out first before committing to karate, please just call in advance so we know to expect you (call 227 3200).

Fall Piano information
I am so excited to see everyone!
I have looked over my calender and it looks like everyone has been placed into a piano time! Hooray!
I know I said I was not going to add anymore students, but I *might* be able to add a few students in the morning. The afternoons and evenings are completely books, but my 7am times are still open with the exception of a few days.
Classes will start the Tuesday AFTER Labor Day! Only a few more weeks and I can't wait to see all of your fantastic kiddos again!

Karate Openings for Fall
This fall we will only be accepting 15 students in the childrens' class and 10 students in the adults class.
At this time there are 6 positions filled for Fall (they have turned in their intent to take class this fall and registration form) in the childrens' class.
We have not opened the adult class for Fall yet. We are doing that today.

Piano Newsletter (with Recital and Summer/Fall enrollment) April/May 2011
Hey there! April got away from me before I could get the newsletter finished! Whew!
The recital is going to be May 23rd. I will once again hold 2 recitals so we have enough room for people and so we don't have to sit for a really long time.
I will send home a paper with your recital time in the next week or so.
It will be at the Rigby Library again.
If you don't mind, get me an approximate head count again so I have enough seats.
Everyone is doing great with their recital songs.
We will not have lessons the week of the 23rd, only the recital.
My summer times for piano are filling up quickly. I have been putting new people on a waiting list, but I need to open up to them soon. I know a few of you mentioned interest but haven't told me a time you want to have lessons yet.I still have Tuesday and Wednesday times available but Monday is completely full.
I also need to know who is returning for the Fall.
I will have registration forms available starting next week.
There is a nonrefundable $10 registration fee that is due by June 1st to hold your spot. In September I will apply that $10 to your first month of lessons.
If you have younger or older siblings you want to start in piano I will have room for them, but I need to know before June 1st which is when I open up my waiting list to fall lessons. I'd also like to set up times when you register for Fall to make everyone's lives easier. This next year I will start at 3:00pm for lessons and will not hold lessons on Frid so I can use that as a make up day. If you have a time you would like to reserve for piano please let me know.

New Karate dojo and times for 2011
We finally have a new home for karate!
It is on Main Street in Rigby close to the Jefferson Star office.
Call 227 3200 for details.
Because our new location has limited times available to us, we will have class on Mondays at the usual time only. This will NOT affect fees as students have always only been charged for 4 classes a month and the rest were essentially free to them. We will have Saturday morning make up classes a few times a month when needed, but they will rarely be necessary.
We want to GROW this year so we can affordably add more nights and classes to our line up. Please invite your friends and family to attend class with you.
Remember, dues are owed this week. Sensei will have invoices for all of you on Monday. If you are a new student you will need to sign the student handbook, registration form and waiver too.

Piano in the new year!
Happy new year!
Group lessons are now full, but I may be willing to create a new class if I have at least 2 students interested.
I have 2 openings left for private lessons and some time on Wednesday or Monday.
No new changes for the new year. We will start on recital pieces in February or March so if you are not a new student (new in 2010) start looking for your fun piece to play.

January 2011 Piano Newsletter
Wow, the fall went too quickly!
I have loved teaching your students and I hope they had a wonderful time with me!
Some notes for the holiday season and January:
1. I am available to teach lessons through the break, BUT you have to let me know immediately if I should expect your student. If I don’t hear from you I will not plan on seeing your student for lessons until school starts again in January. I am happy to teach, I just don’t want to be chained to the piano if your student isn’t coming.
2. Some of your students will need new books very soon. If you have a moment maybe take time to see how many pages are left in their books and if it is less than 5 I suggest getting the next book up for them asap. If you have questions, let me know.
3. I know some of you have asked about festival and the long and short of it is this: I charge less than most piano teachers because I don’t do festival or other tournaments. I think they are great and did them myself some years when I was taking lessons. I just haven’t decided to do them yet. If and when I do it would increase my lesson cost because of the additional time and cost it would be for me to have students in festival so I am not planning to do it in the next year or so. I am sorry for an inconvenience there.
4. Now that winter recital is behind us everyone can start looking for spring recital music! I will choose one for each student and they can choose the second song (I will help the newest students with choosing a song). Don’t worry about this too much just yet, we’ll talk about it more in a month or so.

December Piano Newsletter
1. I need a head count for the recital. It is December 13th (a Monday) at either 6 or 7:15 pm. I am splitting into groups because otherwise not everyone will fit in the room available at the City of Rigby Library. I don’t need exact numbers, but I do need a decent count. If you are over or under by 3 or less don’t worry about letting me know of a numbers change. I want to make sure we have room for everyone who is attending please. I need this the next time I see your student or sooner. Feel free to email or text the info.
2. Next week is Thanksgiving and I am not planning to teach on any days next week UNLESS you contact me TODAY (exactly 1 week from when your lessons are scheduled) to confirm the time for next week or even to see if we can move it for the holiday. Those who have talked to me, I have you set up. Everyone else, please contact me immediately so I will be home and prepared for students. I am happy to teach but I need to know you will be coming.
3. I think some of you may have noticed we are expecting a new addition to our family fairly soon. When that occurs I will be taking a few days off… but lessons won’t! I have a substitute that many of you have met in the past; my mother. She was a piano teacher for years and now teaches in public school. She will be taking over all my lessons as needed so things will be business as usual. The only day that *may* need to be rescheduled is Tuesdays as she has a church obligation she may have difficulty moving. (Daytime students will need to reschedule too, contact me when you have time.) If so I will contact you to see if your student can attend Monday or Friday at the usual (or close to the usual) time. I have given her the information on each student, what books they are using etc so she is very prepared to step in.
4. When the new addition arrives I hope all will understand that I will not be letting students hold or play with the baby. I would rather not be distracted keeping an eye on him and some students are just plain too young to hold the baby without making me really nervous. Also, this is cold and flu season and I’d like to keep the germs down as much as possible. If you would be kind enough to talk to your student (particularly the younger ones) and explain that the baby will not be passed around or available for touching I would be really grateful. Also, if you would be mindful of contagious germies and refrain from bringing sick students to lessons this winter I would be very, VERY grateful. I trust all of you to know what is or is not contagious and thanks for being understanding of an overprotective parent.
5. A lot of students are losing books and/or not bringing all their books to lessons with them. When this occurs their lesson is shortened as I have time set up for each book they bring and when they are missing a book it makes it very difficult to progress through lessons as we will be stuck playing catch up and that can make lessons a bit confusing for everyone. Please make sure your student has all of their books every week. (The books that matter most are the theory, technic and piano books… but really all of them are important.)

When this occurs their lesson is shortened as I have time set up for each book they bring and when they are missing a book it makes it very difficult to progress through lessons as we will be stuck playing catch up and that can make lessons a bit confusing for everyone. Please make sure your student has all of their books every week. (The books that matter most are the theory, technic and piano books… but really all of them are important.)

Happy Halloween/Thanksgiving!
Nearly every student should be working hard on their recital song(s). Some of the early beginners do not have their music yet, but will in the next few weeks. Some of the older students wanted to choose their own songs, which is fine with me. However, I have not seen what songs they are doing yet so maybe remind them. As I said last month, every new-to-piano-student this year will do only one song and everyone else will be playing two.
As for the recital… it will be on December 13 at 6 or 7 pm, depending on the time I select for you. (More on that later in the month.) I will be breaking students into two groups to make it a less of a tight fit. You are welcome to invite any family and friends you would like, but if you can give me a rough estimate of a head count so I set out enough chairs!
Winter reminder: Once it snows if you park on the street you will quite possibly get a ticket or be towed. Sorry to say I have no pull in that regard so unless you are in your car don’t leave it on the street. Just pull into my driveway close to the garage so my husband can come in and out quickly in case of job related emergencies. He *can* get around most cars if you don’t do that, but he tends to take out my sprinkler heads and that makes me cranky in the spring.
As you know, the holidays are coming. The way I handle lessons when there is a holiday and/or no school is this: IF you let me know at least 1 week in advance (I need the full 7 days to plot out my schedule), I am happy to teach your student that week. If your student’s lesson is on Thursday, Thanksgiving Day, I am happy to reschedule it that week on a different day since I doubt you want to bring your turkey dinner to my house! Please do me a favor and let me know if you want to have lessons that week as quickly as possible and definitely 7 days before their lesson that week. This is the same policy for Christmas and the time off through the New Year, so let me know asap.
